In Romania, Zelensky visits airbase training Ukrainian pilots on F-16s
During his official visit to Romania, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited an airbase where Ukrainian pilots are being trained to operate F-16 fighter jets, sources familiar with the events reported.
The training programme for Ukrainian pilots in Romania began in 2024, and some of its graduates are already carrying out combat missions in Ukrainian airspace.
During the visit, Zelensky spoke with the pilots, discussing the specifics of their training, potential challenges, and ways to address them.
On 12 March 2026, Zelensky and Romanian President Nicușor Dan held a meeting in Bucharest, signing several documents aimed at strengthening economic and energy security.
Zelensky’s official visit to Bucharest also includes a series of meetings with Romania’s top leadership.
Earlier, Zelensky compared Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler and criticised Russian propaganda. He also stated that Ukraine will not give up Donetsk for the sake of peace.
