During May of this year, Ukrainian border guards detained approximately 1,100 people who were attempting to cross Ukraine’s state border illegally.
The offenders were detected directly at the demarcation line, as well as within controlled border areas.
Analyzing the trend in violations, the agency notes a seasonal increase in the number of attempts to leave the country illegally.
Comparing the figures for April and May of this year, the number of attempts to illegally cross the border increased in the last month of spring.
Organizers of illegal smuggling routes and their clients tend to become more active with the onset of favorable weather conditions.
An official representative of the agency provided specific data on the results of the officers’ work during the reporting period.
“In fact, in May we detained about 1,100 violators at the border and in the border zone who were attempting to cross the border illegally,” Demchenko noted.
To stop the violators, both operational-investigative units and reinforced mobile patrols were deployed.
Despite the recent increase in illegal activity, long-term statistics show the opposite and more positive trend.
At the same time, the State Border Guard Service spokesperson emphasized that when comparing statistics with the same months last year, the number of attempts to illegally cross the state border has significantly decreased.
This result was achieved thanks to a comprehensive strengthening of engineering barriers.
Currently, border patrols and operational units continue to work around the clock to detect and stop such violations.
Security forces are paying particular attention to river sections and mountain routes, which remain the most dangerous for the lives of fugitives. Continuous monitoring of border forest belts using thermal imaging drones is also ongoing.
The relevant statistics were announced by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
