2,000 individuals unfit for service were identified at the military unit
A major violation has been reported at one of Ukraine’s military units involving the arrival of approximately 2,000 individuals who, due to their health conditions, are likely unfit for military service.
Military Ombudsman Olga Reshetilova reported on the large-scale incident in an interview with RBC-Ukraine on April 5, 2026. An investigation is currently underway to determine the causes of the systemic failure in the mobilization process involving such a large number of people.
Representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Army Command have been involved in the investigation. The commission’s main task is to determine at which specific stage the violation occurred: at the level of territorial recruitment centers (TRCs), during military medical examinations (MMEs), or directly at the military unit. The Ombudsman emphasized that this case requires a detailed investigation, as it involves the mobilization of two thousand people who are medically unfit for combat duties.
Similar incidents of abuse and errors during mobilization have previously been the subject of criminal investigations both in Ukraine and in the Russian Federation, where cases of conscripting individuals with severe illnesses were also documented. In the Ukrainian context, this issue has become particularly acute due to the need for transparent reserve formation. It is expected that the results of the audit will help improve oversight mechanisms for the Military Medical Commission and prevent such situations from recurring in the future. Full details regarding the causes of the widespread violations and the state of support for defenders will be released in a full interview on April 6. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an official statement from the military ombudsman.
As a reminder, a brazen attack on military personnel from the alert group occurred in Vinnytsia. A man stabbed two representatives of the Territorial Recruitment Center.
Earlier, the Odesa Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support launched an internal investigation into the use of a weapon by a servicemember.
