In Zaporizhzhia, a police major has been suspended on suspicion of rape
In Zaporizhzhia, law enforcement officers detained a police major suspected of raping a minor. The officer has been suspended from duty. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
This was reported on Facebook by Artem Kisko, head of the National Police in the Zaporizhzhia region.
“On May 26, 2026, patrol officers discovered a police officer and a minor in circumstances suggesting that a serious crime had been committed against her. The officers immediately informed police leadership and the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) of this. The State Bureau of Investigations has opened a criminal investigation into this matter. The police officer has already been notified of the charges against him. We are providing full cooperation to the SBI and the prosecutor’s office in establishing all the circumstances of the incident,” Kisko wrote.
An internal investigation has been launched regarding the police officer from the Main Department of the National Police in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, who has already been suspended from duty.
The Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor’s Office adds that on May 26, around 2 a.m., in one of Zaporizhzhia’s residential neighborhoods, a senior operative of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Police Department, a police major, committed sexual acts against a minor without her consent.
“Law enforcement officers detained the perpetrator at the scene in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine immediately after a concerned resident of a nearby building, who heard the victim’s screams, called 102,” the prosecutor’s office stated.
A motion has been filed with the court to impose a preventive measure on the suspect in the form of detention without the right to bail.
Initial investigative actions are ongoing. All circumstances of the incident are being established.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by investigators from the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Melitopol.
