A lawyer and a law enforcement officer will stand trial in Zaporizhzhia for a scheme involving the apartments of deceased individuals
In Zaporizhzhia, an indictment has been filed against a lawyer and a law enforcement officer suspected of being involved in a scheme to seize the property of deceased individuals with no heirs.
According to the investigation, in 2021–2022, the suspects obtained information about the deaths of people without heirs and drew up forged loan agreements—allegedly regarding the debts of the deceased.
They then filed lawsuits seeking to recover the “debts” through the seizure of the real estate.
The perpetrators managed to illegally transfer ownership of one of the apartments to straw buyers, sell it, and launder the proceeds.
The suspects are charged with fraud, attempted property theft, use of forged documents, and money laundering.
The case has been referred to court for trial.
