A large-scale fire was extinguished in the "Drevlyansky" Nature Reserve in the Zhytomyr region

In the Zhytomyr region, a large-scale fire in the “Drevlyansky” Nature Reserve—which broke out following Russian shelling—has been completely extinguished. The fire engulfed dozens of hectares of forest, and firefighters battled it for several days straight. Rescue workers were able to stop the spread of the flames only through joint efforts and the use of specialized equipment.

In the Zhytomyr region, rescue workers have completed extinguishing a large-scale fire in a forest area within the Drevlyansky Nature Reserve, which broke out as a result of Russian attacks and spread rapidly due to strong winds.

According to rescue workers, the fire engulfed about 25 hectares of forest, creating a challenging situation for extinguishing the fire hotspots. Due to gusts of wind, the flames moved rapidly across the reserve’s territory, so operations had to be conducted continuously and from several directions simultaneously. “To prevent further spread, rescue workers extinguished the fire along the edges on the eastern and southern sides of the fire,” the State Emergency Service noted.

Working alongside firefighters, employees of the forest protection enterprise created mineralized strips, which served as artificial barriers against the fire and helped contain its spread within the reserve. Drones were also deployed to monitor the situation from the air and quickly identify the most dangerous areas of the fire.

The operation lasted four days, and only then was the fire completely extinguished. In total, about 40 rescue workers and forestry employees, as well as 10 pieces of specialized equipment, participated in the firefighting efforts.

The State Emergency Service emphasizes that thanks to coordinated efforts, they were able to prevent the fire from spreading further into much larger areas of the reserve, which is an important nature conservation area in the region. This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
