FSB agents were exposed in the Kharkiv region while planning a mass killing of military personnel under the guise of a party
On July 27, the Security Service of Ukraine announced that it had exposed and detained two FSB agents who, according to the investigation, were planning a series of terrorist attacks in the Kharkiv region. One of their objectives was an attempt to carry out a mass killing of Ukrainian military personnel under the guise of a “charity” party.
According to the security service, military counterintelligence, under the coordination of SBU Head Oleksandr Poklad, carried out a multi-phase special operation during which two suspects were detained. The investigation established that they were recruited remotely by FSB representatives via Telegram channels, which offered “easy money.”
According to the SBU, the suspects initially carried out test tasks: they photographed and videotaped specific targets, and set fire to a Defense Forces vehicle.
Subsequently, according to law enforcement officials, the agents were tasked with organizing a “charity” party to lure Ukrainian military personnel there. To this end, they rented a house outside the city and distributed invitations via local Telegram channels.
The SBU notes that during the event, the suspects planned to spike drinks with potent substances that could have led to fatalities. According to the investigation, several dozen people agreed to attend the party, most of whom were members of the Defense Forces.
At the same time, according to the investigation, the agents received another assignment from their handler—to manufacture a homemade explosive device with a warhead weighing approximately 10 kg.
Military counterintelligence officers detained one of the suspects while he was carrying the explosive device in a backpack. Another suspect was detained in a rented house where, according to the SBU, she was manufacturing components for the bomb.
During the searches, law enforcement officers seized components of the homemade explosive device, as well as cell phones containing evidence which, according to the investigation, confirms collaboration with Russian special services and the execution of other intelligence and sabotage missions.
The detainees were notified of charges under Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 258 (preparation for a terrorist act) and Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court ordered them to be held in pretrial detention without the right to bail. If found guilty, the suspects face life imprisonment.
