Hundreds of hectares of fields where grain was grown have been discovered in the Chernobyl exclusion zone

The Prosecutor’s Office is demanding the return of three land plots in the Vyshhorod District that have been illegally used for growing wheat and corn since 2020.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, noting that these lands are located in an exclusion zone and a mandatory resettlement zone.

The investigation found that state registrars unjustifiably changed the status of the land to communal property, citing a decision by the non-existent Polissya District Council. The right to use the plots was registered to a private company that carried out agricultural activities without special permits. The use of contaminated territories for food production poses a serious risk to human health, as the products could have entered the market without proper radiological control. Currently, the Commercial Court of Kyiv Oblast is considering a lawsuit to annul the illegal registration actions and return the territories to state administration. Prosecutors emphasize the importance of restoring the protected status and safety regime on radioactively hazardous lands bordering Russian territory. The Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office continues to identify those involved in implementing this scheme.

The French have completedtheir assessment of damage to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant one year after the drone strike.

The National Guard of Ukraine is strengthening the protection of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the exclusion zone. In addition, cooperation with units of the Defense Forces is being deepened to ensure maximum security of the facilities.
