Ukraine will receive a portion of the humanitarian aid package from the U.S. worth more than $1 billion

The United States has announced that it will allocate more than $1 billion in humanitarian aid to millions of people around the world, including Ukraine.

The funding will go to two UN agencies: UNICEF—more than $218 million—and the World Food Programme (WFP)—more than $800 million. In total, the funds will be distributed to humanitarian programs in more than 40 countries around the world.

The list of countries with high humanitarian needs includes Ukraine, Ethiopia, and Myanmar.

The aid will be directed toward supporting civilian populations in crisis situations.

UNICEF and the WFP will use the funding to provide food and nutrition, medical care, child protection, logistical operations, and water and sanitation services.

The State Department noted that the U.S. introduced a new model for humanitarian support in December 2025 as part of the “Humanitarian Reset” memorandum of understanding.

The document provides for the centralization of humanitarian programs, the reduction of bureaucracy, and enhanced coordination through a single local coordinator.

Thus, this new tranche marks the second and third global aid packages under the updated U.S. funding system.

This was reported in a statement by the U.S. Department of State.

As a reminder, the Ukraine Support Act, which provides for additional support for Ukraine, faced serious difficulties even before the final vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. To bring the bill to a vote, its supporters had to resort to a forced vote procedure, gathering the necessary number of signatures from members of Congress to bypass the House leadership.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of the bill, which provides for new aid to Ukraine and tougher sanctions against Russia. The resolution passed by a vote of 226 to 195, with some Republicans supporting the initiative despite former President Donald Trump’s opposition.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published an open letter to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The document formally proposes ending the war through direct bilateral negotiations between the leaders and implementing a complete ceasefire.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow is allegedly ready for negotiations to end the war against Ukraine, but sees no willingness to engage in dialogue on the Ukrainian side.

Putin is not changing course and continues to finance the war.
