Ukraine unveiled its latest SPECTR decoy system
The Ukrainian defense company OM Defence Systems officially unveiled its latest “smart” SPECTR decoy drones at the prestigious international Eurosatory exhibition.
This automated system is designed specifically to deceive the enemy, effectively divert its attention, and rapidly deplete its costly air defense resources.
The new system operates on a simplified and highly effective “press and fly” combat principle.
The SPECTR successfully overloads and depletes ground-based air defense systems by creating a pronounced radar signature that forces the enemy to react and expend anti-aircraft missiles.
The fully autonomous UAV is reliably protected against the destructive effects of enemy electronic warfare jamming. In addition, the design is highly optimized for production cost and operates on a modern software platform.
The standard delivery package for this domestically produced system includes a device for generating a false radar target, a carrier UAV, and a mobile launch platform.
The unmanned aerial vehicle itself measures 1,400 × 2,690 × 400 mm and has a maximum takeoff weight of 12 kilograms. The decoy’s body is made of ultra-light polyvinyl chloride, ensuring high mobility and ease of assembly.
The system’s key technical feature is an adjustable microwave corner reflector weighing 1.2 kilograms, which operates stably in the 3–20 GHz range.
It allows operators to independently adjust the effective scattering area from 1 to over 10 m².
As a result, the system is capable of realistically simulating a wide range of signatures from real airborne threats across various radar bands.
The drone’s claimed flight range is up to 500 kilometers, and its continuous flight time reaches 240 minutes.
The drone is capable of reaching a cruising speed of over 120 kilometers per hour. The decoy drone’s operational ceiling ranges from 500 to 5,000 meters, allowing it to mimic the flight of most types of military aircraft and cruise missiles.
Ukrainian drones have been equipped with navigation similar to the Tomahawk system
Recently, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense certified and approved for use in the Armed Forces of Ukraine three fiber-optic FPV systems manufactured by enterprises of JSC “Ukrainian Defense Industry.”
Prior to this, the Ministry of Defense had standardized and approved the domestic “Volynyaka” unmanned aerial system for use by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense approved the Shablya MK19(M) remotely controlled combat module for use by the armed forces. It is equipped with an MK19 40-mm automatic grenade launcher.
