Ukraine and the U.S. discussed possible formats for talks between Zelenskyy and Putin

During consultations in the United States, Ukrainian and American officials discussed potential formats for meetings and negotiations at the leadership level aimed at finding ways to end the war. The discussions focused on possible diplomatic mechanisms and scenarios for future dialogue.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported this on May 11 via Telegram.

As the president explained, today the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and Ukraine’s chief negotiator, Umerov, briefed him on the results of meetings with U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

“It is important that the U.S. remains engaged in diplomacy and, in particular, has acted as a mediator on the issue of prisoner exchange. Contacts are continuing at the necessary level to agree on the parameters of the exchange. The lists have been submitted, and we expect the U.S. side to be active in ensuring the implementation of this agreement,” Zelenskyy stated.

The President also noted that possible formats for meetings and negotiations at the leadership level to end the Russian war were discussed in the U.S.

Separately, Umerov reported on Ukraine’s international contacts regarding the development of the Drone Deals initiative.

“About 20 countries are already involved at various stages: four agreements have already been signed, and the first contracts are being prepared under these agreements; with other countries, preparatory procedures are underway for political agreements that will open the way for business,” Zelenskyy said.

According to the head of state, Ukraine is already seeing the first energy results from these agreements—the necessary volume of fuel is being secured on the market.

He added that in addition to the Middle East and the Gulf, the South Caucasus, and Europe, “a new format of security cooperation within the framework of Drone Deals will soon be launched with yet another part of the world. Positive news is in the works for Ukraine.”

Prior to this, Zelenskyy stated his readiness to meet with Putin to end the war.

Earlier, the Kremlin stated that Putin was ready to meet with Zelenskyy in Moscow.

At the May 9 parade, Putin called Ukraine “aggressive” and complained about NATO.
