Ukrainian tennis player Maria Kocherzhenko has advanced to the final of the European Under-14 Girls’ Championship. In the semifinal match, she defeated Switzerland’s Liv Bretcher in two sets. The tournament is being held in the Czech city of Most. Now the 13-year-old Ukrainian will compete for the championship title.

In the semifinal match, Maria Kocherzhenko faced Swiss tennis player Liv Bretcher. The Ukrainian started the match confidently and took the first set 6–4. The second set was much more evenly matched—the winner was decided in a tiebreaker.

In the decisive tiebreaker, Kocherzhenko managed to maintain her lead and closed out the set 7–6 (7–5). Thus, the Ukrainian tennis player secured an important victory and advanced to the singles final of the U14 European Championships.

Ukraine Could Have Another Finalist

A Ukrainian player is also competing in the tournament’s second semifinal. Anna Kuznetsova is facing Elizaveta Anikina of Estonia. If Kuznetsova wins, the European Championship final could be an all-Ukrainian affair. This would be a special achievement for Ukrainian tennis, as two representatives of the country could play in the final of this prestigious junior tournament.

Kocherezhenko Makes History in Ukrainian Tennis

Maria Kocherzhenko became only the third Ukrainian tennis player to reach the singles final of the U14 European Championships. Before her, only two other athletes had achieved this feat.

In 2012, Olga Friedman became the European champion among girls under 14. Five years later, in 2017, Daria Lopatetska reached the final and went on to win the tournament. Now, Kocherzhenko has the chance to repeat this success and join the ranks of Ukrainian European champions.

The young athlete’s journey at the tournament

The U14 European Championship brings together the continent’s strongest young female tennis players. For athletes of this age, it is one of the main opportunities to make a name for themselves on the international stage.

Throughout the tournament, Maria Kocherzhenko has demonstrated consistent play and confidently defeated her opponents. Reaching the final was a significant achievement for the Ukrainian, as every match in such competitions demands maximum concentration and composure.
