A Ukrainian actress recounted how a Russian man burned her passport
Ukrainian singer and actress Alla Martynyuk, known for her role in the second season of the series “The Last Muscovite” and her performances with the band “Slivky,” has spoken openly for the first time about domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband, a Russian national. According to her, he burned her passport and later supported Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
The artist recalled what she had to go through to save herself and her daughter. Her acquaintance with her husband quickly turned into a relationship: he proposed just one week after their first meeting. At the time, 21-year-old Alla Martynyuk faced a choice—a career contract in the United Kingdom or a family. She chose the latter, consciously giving up opportunities abroad for the sake of marriage and a future child. About the whirlwind romance that turned into a trap.
According to the actress, as soon as she became pregnant, her husband seemed like a different person. Tenderness gave way to cruelty, and physical abuse became a regular occurrence. With the birth of their daughter Polina, things only got worse.
Jealousy Became an Illness
Her husband’s jealousy took a pathological turn: Alla found herself effectively isolated—she had to give up filming and live under constant surveillance. Once, her husband locked her and the baby in the house and wouldn’t let them out for nearly a week. When her daughter turned two months old, she waited until her husband fell asleep, quietly took the keys, and fled.
The actress recalls the hardest moment of the divorce without sugarcoating it.
“Toward the end, when I’d already told him I wanted a divorce, he burned my passport and started beating me. It was brutal. I was covered in bruises. I left everything behind then. My daughter was wearing only tights, and I ran away in just my slippers. People helped me. Then I went to the police to file for divorce,” Martynuk said.
Attempt to Abduct Her Daughter
Despite what she had been through, Alla did not forbid her daughter from communicating with her father for a long time and even arranged their meetings under her own supervision when he came to Ukraine. However, her husband later resorted to violence again and even tried to kidnap Polina.
The final breakup occurred after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Her ex-husband unequivocally supported Putin’s regime and the armed aggression against Ukraine. Back in 2023, Martynyuk said that he sent her daughter cynical “jokes” about going to fight against Ukrainians with a weapon in his hands.
“He supports Russian aggression. He wrote: ‘Sweetheart, I’ll be right there soon.’ It took me a very long time to help my child get over this. She’d say, ‘Dad, how can that be? Are you going to kill me?’ He’d say, ‘You know I’m for peace. I’ve joined the Russian army.” Then he laughed and said he was joking,” Alla notes.
After that, Polina decided on her own to sever all contact with the child’s father for good, declaring that, as far as she was concerned, he was dead.
