In August, the NBU transferred nearly ₴298 million to the defense budget
In August 2026, the National Bank of Ukraine transferred nearly 298 million hryvnias from a special account to fund defense needs.
In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, nearly 158.1 billion hryvnia has been allocated from the NBU’s special account for defense needs.
“In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, the National Bank has transferred nearly 158.1 billion hryvnias from the special account for defense needs, and nearly 298 million hryvnias in August 2026,” the NBU said in a statement.
Funds from the special account were allocated to:
- the National Guard of Ukraine—over 1,724 million hryvnia;
- the National Police of Ukraine – 1,650 million hryvnias;
- the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine—over 38,503 million hryvnias;
- the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine—999.5 million hryvnias;
- State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine – over 8,275 million hryvnias;
- State Emergency Service of Ukraine – over 156.2 million hryvnia;
- National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine – nearly 40.1 million UAH;
- State Special Transport Service – over 233 million UAH;
- Security Service of Ukraine – nearly 909.2 million UAH, including 125 million UAH on August 6, 2026;
- military units – over 286.9 million UAH;
- Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine – over 1,491 million UAH;
- the Defense Procurement Agency—over 100,909 million hryvnias;
- Regional military administrations for defense-related activities—over 2,902 million hryvnias.
For the Regional Military Administrations, the following transfers are listed separately: nearly 94 million UAH on August 3, 14 million UAH on August 5, and 65 million UAH on August 6, 2026.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the equivalent of nearly 170 billion UAH has been deposited into the NBU’s special account.
In August 2026 alone, over 9.9 billion UAH was deposited into the account.
Since the start of the full-scale war, the special foreign-currency account has received over 147.6 billion hryvnias in equivalent from abroad.
The funds were received in U.S. dollars, euros, pounds sterling, Canadian dollars, Chinese yuan (Renminbi), yen, Swiss francs, Polish zlotys, and Australian dollars.
As of September 1, 2026, nearly 13 billion hryvnias remained in the special account.
The National Bank opened this account on February 24, 2022, to collect funds in support of Ukraine’s defense forces.

Earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine imposed sanctions on three financial companies. One of them had its license revoked, another was ordered to rectify violations, and certain operations were suspended for the third.
As a reminder, the NBU is investigating banks in connection with the collateral related to Halushchenko.
According to People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, during the hearing of the case against Sense Bank CEO Oleksiy Stupak, prosecutors also disclosed a series of conversations which, according to investigators, confirm the origin of these funds.
