Ukrainian Ballistic Missiles FP-7 and FP-9 to Become a Cheaper Alternative to American ATACMS
Ukrainian ballistic missiles FP-7 and FP-9, developed by the company Fire Point, are expected to match the performance of American ATACMS missiles while providing key advantages.
Chief Designer Denys Shtillerman told Armiya TV in an interview that the domestic missiles will cost at least half as much as foreign equivalents, enabling mass production. The FP-7 has already undergone testing, while the long-range FP-9, with a range of 800 kilometers, is being prepared for its first trials.
In addition to low cost, the Ukrainian missiles are expected to feature a more powerful warhead and a unique camouflage system. Launchers are planned to be mounted on standard trucks, making them hard to detect by Russian reconnaissance. The deployment time for such a mobile system is estimated at around 15 minutes, allowing highly responsive strikes.
While Russia continues to rely on outdated Soviet-era technologies, Ukraine is emphasizing mobility and cost-efficiencyin its missile development.
Fire Point, also known for developing the cruise missile “Flamingo,” has successfully tested the FP-7 ballistic missile. The company is now finalizing preparations to deploy both FP-7 and FP-9 into service.
