Ukrainian troops have begun wearing the Bundeswehr's new uniform

Ukrainian troops have begun wearing the Bundeswehr's new uniform

Ukrainian service members are already using certain components of the new combat clothing system that Germany is introducing as part of a large-scale modernization of the Bundeswehr. Specifically, these include combat pants and shirts manufactured by Hexonia.

The new pieces of equipment are part of the Kampfbekleidungssatz Streitkräfte (KBS SK)—the German Army’s modular combat clothing system.

Its core principle is layering, which allows service members to adapt their gear depending on weather conditions, the season, and the nature of the combat mission.

The system includes:

  • combat pants;
  • combat shirt;
  • a field jacket;
  • insulating and waterproof layers;
  • thermal underwear;
  • gloves;
  • other pieces of equipment.

One of the key features of the KBS SK is its modularity. Even after adding insulating or protective layers, the soldier retains access to equipment attached to the body armor or belt system.

The KBS SK is part of a large-scale modernization program for the Bundeswehr, which involves upgrading not only clothing but also personal protective equipment.

In total, the system includes over 100 pieces of equipment—ranging from field knives and clothing to body armor, helmets, and backpack systems.

At the same time, Germany is upgrading its soldiers’ ballistic protection as part of the MOBAST (Modulare ballistische Schutz- und Trageausstattung) system.

This system features a modular body armor vest to which, depending on the mission, protection for the neck, shoulders, groin, and thighs can be added.

The Bundeswehr is also receiving new combat helmets that can be fitted with night-vision devices, modern communication equipment, and active headphones.

Ukrainian service members, who are already using some elements of the new German uniform, speak highly of its quality and comfort.

“I’m satisfied with the uniform. It’s high-quality, comfortable, and fits well,” one of the soldiers told *Military*.

At the same time, he noted that not all elements of the German equipment are used equally widely by the Ukrainian military.

According to him, Bundeswehr body armor has not become the primary type of aid received by Ukrainian units. Instead, clothing items and other equipment have proven to be the most in demand.

Thus, the Ukrainian military is already gaining experience using the Bundeswehr’s new modular equipment system, which Germany is gradually introducing into its own armed forces.

This was reported by the “Military” portal.

As of August 8, 2026, the total combat losses of Russian troops since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine amount to approximately 1,456,610 soldiers.

On August 8, 2026, Ukraine will celebrate the first-ever Day of the Signal Corps and Cybersecurity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This professional holiday for military communications specialists was established as a mark of respect for the service members who ensure stable communications, troop command and control, and cybersecurity for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
