Ukrainians will not have an extra day off on August 24 for Independence Day
Ukraine’s Independence Day in 2026 falls on a Monday; however, August 24 will not be an additional day off.
While martial law is in effect in Ukraine, the provisions of the law regarding holidays and non-working days do not apply. Therefore, Monday, August 24, will be a regular workday for employees.
Independence Day is celebrated annually on August 24. This date remains a national holiday, but during martial law, its status as a holiday does not automatically mean it is a non-working day.
The visit of U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Kyiv on Ukraine’s Independence Day has not yet been confirmed.
According to a U.S. official at the White House, the trip by U.S. representatives was indeed discussed, but no final decision has been made yet.
