The government has outlined the specifics of how schooling will be organized for the new school year

The 2026–2027 school year in Ukraine’s general secondary education institutions will begin, as usual, on September 1, despite the ongoing martial law.

Regional and Kyiv City military administrations, together with the founders of educational institutions, will determine the format for the start of the school year depending on the security situation in each community.

“Regional and Kyiv City military administrations, together with the founders of educational institutions, will determine how the school year will begin in each community, taking into account the security situation in the region. This will allow communities to flexibly organize the educational process in accordance with security conditions, while ensuring the continuity of education,” Svyrydenko noted.

The Prime Minister announced that the school year will officially end on June 30, 2027. At the same time, each educational institution will independently determine the dates for the last day of school, the end of classes, and the duration of summer vacation.

The relevant decisions will be made by the schools’ teaching councils, taking into account:

  • the security situation;
  • the needs of students and teachers;
  • the specifics of how the educational process is organized.

Because of this, the dates for the end of the school year and summer break may vary from school to school,” explained Yulia Svyrydenko.

Thus, although the start of the new school year remains the same across the country, the end of the school year and the vacation schedule may vary depending on the decision of a specific school and the security conditions in the region.

This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

As a reminder, in Ukraine, the current 2025/2026 school year officially lasted until June 30, 2026; however, the format of instruction in June will be adaptive.

As a reminder, Ukraine has compiled a ranking of distance-learning schools based on the results of the National Multisubject Test (NMT). It assesses the academic performance of graduates and demonstrates the effectiveness of online learning in the country.

In Kyiv, schools and preschools will be temporarilymerged due to heating problems.
