Widespread power outages began in Crimea following an explosion at a substation
In the temporarily occupied Crimea, power outages began in several districts following an overnight explosion at a large power substation in the village of Nizhnegorsk. In particular, settlements in the Krasnogvardeisky and Pervomaisky districts were left without power.
According to residents of the Krasnogvardeisky district, the power went out around 2:00 a.m.
Prior to this, they said, there had been no power outages for three to four weeks, and street lighting had even begun to be restored in the towns.
Since approximately 2:00 a.m., a number of villages in the Pervomaisky District have also been without power.
Crimean Telegram channels are linking the power outages to a nighttime explosion at a large power substation in Nizhnegorsk.
However, there is currently no official confirmation that damage to the substation was the cause of the power outages in these areas.
The day before, an explosion at an energy facility was reported in the Nizhnegorsk district. However, details regarding the nature of the damage and the consequences of the incident were not disclosed.
The Nizhnegorsk district is one of the key areas for energy infrastructure in the northern and central parts of occupied Crimea. Therefore, disruptions at major energy facilities can affect the power supply to several settlements at once.
It is currently unknown exactly how many consumers are without power and when the power supply will be fully restored.
The causes of the outages, the extent of possible damage, and the final consequences of the incident are currently being investigated.
Local residents and Crimean Telegram channels are reporting the outages.
