In Odesa, 11 lawmakers may lose their seats following a court ruling
On September 22, the “Trust the Deeds” Party decided to recall 11 deputies—six members of the Odesa City Council and five members of the Odesa Regional Council. Once the procedures required by law are completed, their seats will be transferred to the next candidates in line on the party’s electoral lists.
This was announced by Oleg Etnarovich, the head of the faction in the Odesa City Council and chair of the standing committee on education, sports, and cooperation with civil society organizations.
According to him, the party held a regular meeting last weekend, during which it adopted the relevant decision.
“The party must work as a unified team. If someone fails to fulfill their obligations, we have the legal right to renew the composition of the council and give those who are ready to work for the benefit of Odesa and the region the opportunity to do so,” Etnarovich stated.
He also noted that the process of recalling deputies had been challenged in court, which had blocked the procedure for replacing the seats.
On September 21, the appeals court issued a ruling that removes these obstacles and allows the procedure to continue in accordance with the law.
Separately, Etnarovich addressed the secretary of the Odessa City Council, Acting Mayor Igor Koval.
“We have always advocated for constructive and effective work by the council. On the eve of the previous session, we clearly explained our position and the reasons why we could not participate in the vote. It is of fundamental importance to us that the City Council operate within the bounds of the law and that its decisions be legally sound,” he emphasized.
According to the leader of the “Trust the Deeds” faction, once the legal obstacles are removed, it is necessary to resume the city council’s full-fledged work as soon as possible.
“We insist on convening a city council session as soon as possible. There are many important issues in Odesa that require decisions. The city must function, and the city council must fulfill its duties to the people of Odesa,” Etnarovich concluded.
