In Odessa, a crowd blocked a police car because of a man wanted by the police
On the evening of May 14 in Odesa, a confrontation broke out between police and a group of people during an attempt to take a man to a regional recruitment center. According to law enforcement officials, the man was wanted for deserting his military unit.
During the incident, people began blocking a police vehicle, and one of the participants damaged the car with a metal chain. Several people were subsequently taken to the police station. The situation was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odessa region.
The incident occurred in the Primorsky district of the city on Soniachna Street. According to preliminary information, patrol officers checked the documents of a male pedestrian and determined that he was wanted.
The police stated that the man was wanted for deserting his military unit. “While attempting to transport the man to the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support, a group of citizens intervened,” law enforcement officials reported.
According to the police, people began blocking the movement of the police vehicle and interfering with the officers’ actions.
The situation quickly escalated. Additional patrol police crews, members of the tactical and operational response unit, and an investigative and operational team were called to the scene. Separately, the police reported damage to the police vehicle. “One of the participants in the incident damaged the police vehicle with a metal chain,” law enforcement officials noted.
After additional police forces intervened, several of the most active participants in the conflict were taken to the local police station. Law enforcement is currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident and gathering evidence for a legal assessment. The police emphasized that a decision on further procedural actions will be made once the investigation is complete.
Similar conflicts have recently arisen periodically in various cities across Ukraine during inspections of military registration documents or the work of representatives of the Territorial Recruitment Center. Law enforcement officials urge citizens not to obstruct their actions and to resolve disputes exclusively within the legal framework.
