In Odesa, an infant died after his 16-year-old parents left him unattended

Authorities in Odesa are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 10-month-old child who, according to preliminary reports, choked on food.

According to a lawmaker, the tragedy occurred after the 16-year-old parents left the baby unattended. Law enforcement officials are currently investigating all the details of the incident.

"According to preliminary information, the parents briefly left the child at home unattended. Upon their return, they found her showing no signs of life. Medical personnel fought to save the child’s life, but were unable to do so. The preliminary cause of death is aspiration of food,” the lawmaker said.

According to Sushko, the infant’s parents are both 16 years old. He added that the police had received reports of suicide attempts by the child’s mother.

Following this, according to the lawmaker, the Child Welfare Service contacted the Social Services Center regarding the need to register the family as one facing difficult life circumstances and to provide a range of social services.

However, as the lawmaker claims, “work with the family was effectively limited to a preventive conversation, providing information about the list of social services, and obtaining a written refusal to receive them.”

People’s Deputy Pavlo Sushko reported this on Facebook.

A baby bornweighing 1,060 grams was discharged from Okhmatdyt.

Earlier at the Okhmatdyt National Children’s Specialized Hospital, doctors and staff honored the memory of 13-year-old Ivan, who became an organ donor after his death and saved the lives of four patients.

Thanks to the Ukrainian Bone Marrow Donor Registry, a genetic match was found for 34-year-old Zinoviy from Kyiv, who had been battling aplastic anemia for a long time. Unfortunately, there were no suitable donors among the patient’s relatives. However, the registry identified a 21-year-old man who donated his blood-forming cells.
