A National Guard officer was detained in Odesa for providing the Russians with access to a restricted platform in exchange for $1,000
In Odesa, law enforcement officials detained an officer of the Ukrainian National Guard who is suspected of collaborating with Russian military intelligence. According to the investigation, he provided Russian officials with data that allowed them to gain access to a restricted National Guard platform in exchange for a $1,000 payment.
According to the investigation, the suspect was the commander of a National Guard special operations unit and provided Russian officials with classified information about his unit’s operations.
For $1,000, the SBU alleges, he provided Russian intelligence services with login credentials for his personal account on the National Guard’s restricted online platform.
Using this access, the Russians attempted to obtain information on the planning, preparation, and conduct of combat operations, as well as personnel management.
The SBU noted that counterintelligence had documented the suspect’s activities as early as the initial stage of his collaboration with the Russian side.
In addition to passing on information, the officer, according to the investigation, carried out other tasks. In particular, he set fire to a military vehicle in Odesa and filmed the fire on his phone to report to his Russian handler.
The suspect was also supposed to manufacture a homemade explosive device and hand it over to another person to prepare a terrorist attack in southern Ukraine. The officer was detained at his apartment in Odesa.
During a search, law enforcement officers seized a laptop, a smartphone, and storage devices which, according to the SBU, contain evidence of his ties to Russian military intelligence.
The man was notified of charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—treason committed under martial law.
He is being held in custody without the right to bail. If found guilty, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
The SBU is demanding access to information about the planned actions of the NABU and the SAPO, according to Shabunin.
NABU and the SAP have revealed details of the investigation into a criminal organization involving high-ranking officials, where raider attacks and money laundering are suspected; the case involves current and former members of parliament, as well as high-ranking officials from the Office of the President of Ukraine. Photos released by NABU as part of the case show, among other things, bags of cash.
