The Presidential Office responded to Fedorov's statements regarding the holding of elections in Ukraine

The Office of the President of Ukraine stated that it does not object to holding elections, but the main problem remains the security situation amid a full-scale war.

This was the response from a source to a statement by former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, in which he expressed support for holding the election during the war.

“Let them hold them amid the shelling—what can you say? No one has ever been against elections, but the electoral process is more than just figuring out how to vote,” said a source at the Office of the President who spoke to the publication.

According to him, holding elections amid Russian attacks poses significant risks to those involved in the electoral process.

“Russian ‘shahids’ and ballistic missiles, unfortunately, answer that question for us,” noted the representative of the Office of the President.

On the evening of August 18, Mykhailo Fedorov published an address to Ukrainians in which he made a series of political statements for the first time.

In particular, the former minister expressed support for holding elections during the war and stated that there is a “systemic crisis of governance” in the country.

At the same time, the Office of the President emphasized that the issue of holding elections is not limited to the technical feasibility of organizing a vote. According to a source, it is necessary to ensure the safety of voters, candidates, and other participants in the electoral process.

LIGA.net reports on this.

Ukraine needs to develop a mechanism for holding elections even during wartime, ensuring the right to vote for all citizens. This opinion was expressed on August 18 by former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

As a reminder, on August 18, the Verkhovna Rada received nominations from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to appoint Yevhen Khmara as Ukraine’s Minister of Defense and Andriy Sybiga as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Verkhovna Rada prematurely terminated the mandates of People’s Deputies Denys Maslov and Vitaliy Bezgin, who were members of the “Servant of the People” faction. Parliament adopted the relevant resolutions at a plenary session on July 17.
