Ukraine is preparing stricter fines for speeding and traffic violations

The Ukrainian government is working to increase penalties for drivers who systematically violate traffic rules. The new changes may include stricter fines, particularly for habitual speeding.

The government is preparing a set of measures aimed at reducing road accidents and improving driver discipline.

Among the proposed changes:

  • stricter penalties for systematic traffic violations;
  • stricter penalties for regular speeding;
  • improving systems for automatic and manual detection of violations;
  • legislative regulation of the use of electric scooters and other light personal electric vehicles.

Svyrydenko emphasized that final decisions will be made taking public discussion into account.

According to her, the main goal of the changes is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries resulting from traffic accidents.

Police have detained the driver of a Mercedes who caused a fatal traffic accident in Kyiv on Friday. Four people were killed in the accident, and several others were injured.

An investigation is underway in Kyiv into the horrific accident on Chokolivsky Boulevard, where a Mercedes crashed into an underground pedestrian crossing at high speed. Four people were killed in the tragedy, including a 12-year-old boy.
