Ukraine May Reinstate Weekends on Public Holidays
A bill has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada that would restore official days off on public holidays that were canceled during the period of martial law.
This refers to Bill No. 14403, which proposes restoring the previous system for tracking working hours and granting additional days off on holidays and non-working days.
The authors of the initiative believe that restoring public holidays will contribute to the psychological recovery of citizens amid a protracted war and constant stress.
At the same time, a petition was submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers calling for the restoration of official days off on public holidays. Its authors emphasize that Ukrainians have been living under conditions of war, regular shelling, and chronic psychological strain for over four years.
The petition notes that despite constant air raid alerts and nighttime attacks, citizens continue to work, support the country’s economy, and assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the petitioners, additional days off could partially offset this strain.
The bill is currently under consideration by parliament.
