Cucumbers and young cabbage have become more expensive in Ukraine

As of June 26, 2026, Ukraine has seen price increases for certain vegetables. Cucumbers and young cabbage have seen the sharpest price increases in recent days, while the prices of potatoes, carrots, and onions have remained stable.

According to data from the Kyiv market, cucumber prices have risen by 17.39%

While just a few days ago they were selling for 20–25 UAH per kilogram, the price is now 25–30 UAH/kg.

The price of early white cabbage has also risen, increasing by 13.64% to 23–28 UAH per kilogram. Experts attribute this to the fact that the mass harvest of mid-season and late-season cabbage varieties has not yet begun, and the current price of the new crop is approximately 20% higher than it was at the end of June last year.

At the same time, old potatoes are holding steady at 13–17 UAH/kg, while new potatoes have dropped in price by 16.67% and are currently available for 13–45 UAH/kg. Overall, the price of potatoes on the Ukrainian market is currently about 10% lower than it was during the same period last year.

Prices for onions (16–18 UAH/kg), carrots (30–35 UAH/kg), and tomatoes (63–85 UAH/kg) have remained unchanged.

Among the vegetables that have seen the sharpest price drops is cauliflower, which has fallen by 22.08% to 58–65 UAH per kilogram.

The situation in supermarkets also varies by chain. Specifically, ATB offers the cheapest new potatoes, Silpo has the widest selection of vegetables, and Novus has the best prices on tomatoes.

Experts predict that prices for vegetables used in borscht will remain close to last year’s levels this summer, but price drops toward the end of the season will be less noticeable. As a result, the average cost of vegetables may remain 5–15% higher than last year.

Among the reasons cited for the high prices are spring frosts, which delayed the ripening of the harvest, as well as rising production costs and a reduction in product inventories in storage facilities. As a result, more expensive early-season and imported produce is entering the market, which is keeping prices high.

This is evidenced by data from the “Stolichny” market website in Kyiv.

As a reminder, a new price reversal has begun in Ukraine’s vegetable market: some products have risen sharply in price despite the summer season, while others, on the contrary, continue to become cheaper. The most notable increases were seen in cucumbers and young cabbage, which rose by several hryvnias in just one week. Against this backdrop, the market remains volatile and unpredictable, with sharp price fluctuations even within a single segment.

This summer, prices for dairy and meat products in Ukraine are expected to rise by between 8% and 20%. Denis Marchuk, deputy chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, announced this during a speech at Media Center Ukraine. The expert cited labor costs, the hryvnia’s exchange rate against foreign currencies, and the overall inflation rate as the key factors directly influencing the final price of goods.
