There are more than 50,000 clubs and groups for children in Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Education
There are 1,134 extracurricular education institutions in Ukraine, offering 51,053 clubs and sections. They serve 769,981 students, and classes are taught by 14,252 educators.
The Ministry of Education and Science noted that a systematic overhaul of out-of-school education is underway in the new school year. This involves updating the curriculum and the network of institutions, digitization, and creating new opportunities for the development of children’s competencies.
“In the 2026–2027 school year, a systematic overhaul of out-of-school education is underway: updating the curriculum and the network of institutions, digitization, and the creation of new opportunities for the development of children’s competencies. The main focus is on the accessibility of high-quality extracurricular education, hands-on learning, STEM, national-patriotic education, and the opportunity to participate regardless of place of residence,” the ministry’s statement reads.
One area of change will be the renewal of the All-Ukrainian Military-Patriotic Game for Children and Youth “Sokil” (“Dzhura”).
The Ministry of Education and Science stated that it plans to introduce modern methodological approaches and safety standards, update the requirements for training camps and practical training formats, and expand the network of regional training camps.
The ministry has also developed rules for a nationwide competition for “Defense of Ukraine” chapters. These rules establish uniform procedures for participation, evaluation, and awards.
Families can search for activities for their children through the “Mriya.Extracurricular” app. Currently, over 8,000 clubs and groups are available in the system.
Areas of interest include sports, art, music, programming, science, technology, and scouting.
According to the Ministry of Education and Science, more than 350 schools have already created their own clubs and groups in the system.
The Science Museum and the “KUBOID” Mathematics Museum also provide opportunities for hands-on learning. Children can explore mathematics and the natural sciences through hands-on activities and interactive exhibits.
The traveling format of these museums allows interactive exhibits to be brought directly to Ukrainian communities.
In addition, Ukrainian children can participate in the Olympiad movement, open rounds, MAN competitions, the GENIUS Olympiad, and other research and creative competitions.
“Children in Ukraine and abroad can independently participate in the Olympiad movement, open rounds, MAN competitions, the GENIUS Olympiad, and other research and creative competitions,” the Ministry of Education stated.
Thus, in the 2026–2027 school year, extracurricular education in Ukraine is developing not only through expanded access to clubs and sections but also thanks to digital services, hands-on STEM education, patriotic education, and the involvement of children in scientific and creative projects.
