Auctions for the demining of private agricultural land have been announced in Ukraine for the first time
The Humanitarian Demining Center (HDC) has launched a new phase of clearing Ukrainian territories by announcing the first tenders for demining services on private residential properties.
Currently, two auctions are already available in the system, concerning land in the Izyum district of Kharkiv region.
The launch of this program was made possible by simplifying the requirements for farmers and individual landowners.
Now, farmers do not need to open accounts on their own to receive funds—the HMC has taken over this function, which has significantly streamlined bureaucratic procedures.
Deputy Minister of Economy Ihor Bezkaravaynyi reported that the ministry has already received over a hundred applications to clear an area of more than 25,000 hectares.
Most of the requests come from owners of private farms who want to return the land to cultivation.
The first site up for auction is a 4-hectare plot near the village of Suligivka, where the starting price for the work is 505,000 hryvnias.
The area is heavily contaminated with anti-vehicle mines and unexploded ordnance, which pose a deadly threat to people and equipment.
The second auction concerns a small plot of 0.59 hectares near the village of Vovchyi Yar, with the cost of work estimated at 75,300 hryvnias.
On this land, experts have identified the presence of anti-personnel mines and dangerous cluster munition components left behind by the occupiers.
“Since the launch of this year’s ‘Humanitarian Demining’ program, we have received over a hundred applications from farmers and individual landowners,” noted Ihor Bezkaravaynyi.
He emphasized that such demand confirms the critical need for state support in restoring the agricultural sector.
The risk of landmines persists in the outskirts of Kyiv.
