Since the beginning of summer, the number of buses traveling abroad has increased significantly in Ukraine

Since the beginning of summer, the number of buses traveling abroad has increased significantly in Ukraine

The number of buses leaving Ukraine daily has exceeded 500 since the beginning of June, whereas in early May that figure was around 350

According to Kuleba, in just one day (approximately June 21–22), nearly 600 buses crossed the border, and roughly the same number entered Ukraine.

“Over the past day, nearly 600. And roughly the same number are entering Ukraine. In other words, the volume of traffic is increasing very significantly,” the minister noted.

The ministry explains that the “eCherga” system is operational at all border crossing points for buses; however, delays are occurring due to the increase in traffic.

Among the reasons:

  • an increase in the number of vehicles
  • limited capacity at the checkpoints
  • the introduction of new security procedures at EU borders

Authorities say they are systematically working to expand border infrastructure.

Key projects include:

  • “Porubne” border crossing (Romania)—reconstruction is underway, with the first phase scheduled for completion by the end of the year
  • “Uzhhorod” Border Crossing Point (Slovakia) — modernization is expected to increase bus throughput by 20%
  • Odesa corridor (Moldova) — all 9 border crossing points are being modernized; work has already been completed at 4 of them

Kuleba also announced an agreement with Romania regarding the “Dyakivtsi” border crossing, where large buses—which were previously not allowed to pass—will now be permitted.

“We are increasing the capacity for bus crossings so that our people don’t have to wait in lines,” he emphasized.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Recovery and Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba in an interview with “Interfax-Ukraine.”

As a reminder, installation work and a temporary reconnection of utility networks will take place at the “Mali Selmenci – Velke Slemenci” border crossing on the Ukrainian-Slovak border from June 25 to 27.

The “Palanka–Mayaki–Udobne” border crossing on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border has temporarily suspended processing of citizens and vehicles due to a technical malfunction in the border service’s information systems.
