Ukraine to Introduce a "Coach of the Year" Award

Matvii Bidnyi, Ukraine’s Minister of Youth and Sports, announced the launch of a new award—the “Coach of the Year” award—designed to recognize coaches’ contributions to the development of Ukrainian sports.

According to him, it is coaches who are behind every sporting victory, shaping the character and potential of athletes and helping them overcome setbacks.

“We want to honor the people who develop Ukrainian sports every day… That is why the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Mass Sports Agency are launching the ‘Coach of the Year’ award,” Bidnyi wrote.

The minister announced that the first awards ceremony will take place on July 19, Coach’s Day. The award will be presented in eight categories covering various areas of sport—from children’s and youth sports to professional, Paralympic, and mass sports.

Bidnyi also noted that the winners will be determined through an open vote.

“We’ll share the details very soon, and everyone will be able to join in selecting Ukraine’s best coaches,” he added.

Bidnyi wrote about this on Facebook.

Earlier, the award ceremony for the international “Four Freedoms” prize took place in Middelburg, the Netherlands; this year’s laureates were Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people.
