The High Anti-Corruption Court remanded a former Foreign Ministry official from Bankova Street into custody with bail set at 10 million hryvnias
On August 3, the High Anti-Corruption Court remanded Oleksandr Bankov, former State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, into custody. Bail in the amount of 10 million hryvnias was set as an alternative to detention.
This was reported by “Suspilne” from the courtroom, according to “European Truth.” The preventive measure was chosen in a case involving the alleged embezzlement of over 37 million hryvnias, which had been received from foreign citizens and donors to support Ukraine at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
It was previously reported that Bankov was the organizer of the scheme. The hearing on the motion to select a pretrial measure took place over several sessions—on July 29 and 31.

A prosecutor from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office requested that the former Foreign Ministry official be remanded in custody with an alternative bail of 15 million hryvnias. The defense requested a less severe pretrial measure and argued that the proposed bail amount was excessive. The High Anti-Corruption Court partially granted the prosecution’s motion, reducing the bail amount by 5 million hryvnias.
News of the exposure of an organized group that reportedly embezzled funds from foreign donors at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion became public on July 27. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the former state secretary’s possible misconduct was uncovered during an internal audit.
