The cost of an Easter basket in 2026 has risen by nearly 300 hryvnias

The cost of a traditional basket of food items for Easter in 2026 has risen by 14.4% compared to last year.

Now, a basic holiday basket will cost a Ukrainian family an average of 1,903 hryvnias.

Easter celebrations, which Catholics will observe on April 5 and Orthodox Christians on April 12, will be among the most expensive in recent years.

Despite expectations of market stabilization, prices for basic food items continue to set new records.

The main factors driving the price increase are meat products and dairy goods. This is due to a shortage of raw materials in certain regions and a significant rise in logistics and energy costs.

According to data from experts at the Institute of Agricultural Economics, a similar basket of goods cost 1,663 hryvnias back in 2025. Over the past four years, the total cost of the holiday has nearly doubled, starting from 972 hryvnias in 2022.

Meat delicacies and homemade baked goods showed the greatest increase. The cost of one kilogram of Easter bread in 2026 is approximately 266 hryvnias, whereas last year it cost 233 hryvnias.

Half a kilogram of homemade sausage now costs 287 hryvnias instead of 212 hryvnias. The price of smoked pork has also risen and ranges from 345 to 353 hryvnias for 500 grams of the product.
