Poachers killed a Red List moose in the Chernihiv region

In the border region of Chernihiv, law enforcement officers and environmental inspectors uncovered the illegal killing of a wild animal. Representatives of the gamekeeping service were the first to report suspicious activity on the hunting grounds of the Horodnya community; they subsequently identified the crime scene.

This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate in Chernihiv Oblast

An investigative team dispatched to the scene confirmed the poaching and launched a series of urgent investigations to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The victim of the perpetrators was an adult male European elk, which is officially listed in Ukraine’s Red Book and is under special protection. The State Environmental Inspection expressed outrage at the offenders’ actions, emphasizing that hunting in the region is completely prohibited due to martial law. Such crimes cause irreparable damage to the ecosystem and continue a series of high-profile attacks on unique wildlife, as happened in the Kyiv region, where poachers shot a red deer nicknamed Runi at point-blank range.

Earlier, in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, a Przewalski’s horse was killed by a Russian landmine.

In the Lviv region, poachers killed two red-listed bison. The men attempted to burn the remains of one of them.
