Murder of a Suspect in the Monaco Case: The SBU Has Released New Details
The body of Anastasia Berezovskaya, a Ukrainian citizen whom law enforcement authorities in the Principality of Monaco suspected of attempting to murder a family—an incident in which three people, including a child, were injured—was found in Ukraine. On July 1, 2026, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies launched a pretrial investigation into this incident. According to the investigation, Berezovska returned to Ukraine that same day.
As a result of investigative and operational measures, law enforcement identified her circle of contacts and travel routes. Currently, two suspects in her murder have been detained.
Law enforcement officials identified her travel routes and circle of contacts. After her arrival, she maintained contact with relatives, as well as with two men—a former law enforcement officer and a current employee of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Investigators determined that both men had previously transferred funds to Berezovska’s bank and cryptocurrency accounts on multiple occasions, which led to them being investigated for possible involvement in the assassination attempt in Monaco.
During urgent investigative actions, the GUR employee stated that he and the second suspect had killed Berezovskaya. According to him, he did not inform his superiors about his contacts with the woman, the money transfers, or his other actions, and acted on his own.
“Additionally, during a search of the former law enforcement officer’s home, a basement room resembling a torture chamber was discovered,” the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported.
Both men were detained on suspicion of committing premeditated murder as part of a conspiracy by a group of individuals. Based on the testimony of one of the detainees, law enforcement officers conducted a reenactment, which led to the discovery of Anastasia Berezovskaya’s body with gunshot wounds to the head. Bullet casings were also recovered at the scene.
Investigators are currently preparing notices of suspicion for the detainees. The Ukrainian side has already shared all available information with Monaco’s law enforcement agencies and is cooperating with them as part of the investigation.
Law enforcement agencies note that efforts are ongoing to identify possible masterminds and other individuals involved in the attack on the family in Monaco. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the National Police of Ukraine with operational support from the SBU’s counterintelligence unit and in cooperation with the leadership of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

As a reminder, the suspect in the attack on Yermolayev fled from Monaco to Germany.
In Germany, law enforcement officers conducted searches at the apartment of Ukrainian citizen Anastasia Berezovskaya, whom Interpol is seeking as the prime suspect in the case of the attempted assassination of Ukrainian businessman Yermolayev in Monaco.
On July 6, near Kyiv, the body of a woman suspected of attempting to murder sanctioned businessman Vadym Yermolayev in Monaco was found.
