The United Kingdom will fund a migrant deportation center in France

The United Kingdom will fund the creation of a new 140-bed migrant detention and deportation center in Dunkirk, France, to combat illegal crossings of the English Channel. The facility is expected to begin operations by the end of the year, employing 200 additional French staff members who will be responsible for returning migrants to their countries of origin or other EU member states.

Sky News reports on the allocation of funds from a £160 million fund.

The project funding, agreed upon between London and Paris, may be withdrawn if no results are achieved within the first year of operation. British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood noted that such measures will allow for the deportation of citizens of Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, and Iraq before they even attempt to cross the border. The new approach will be tested in the near future at a nearby center to restore control over migration processes. The plan provides for the systematic return of individuals who most often attempt to enter Britain illegally. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen security along the French coast.

It should be noted that asylum seekers whom the UK has forcibly deported to France under a bilateral agreement are re-entering British territory via trucks.

Iranian citizens fleeing the regime due to U.S. strikes have arrived at the Calais Jungle camp in France with the intention of crossing the English Channel and remaining in the UK. They warn that many more people are preparing to flee due to the escalation of the conflict.
