The Ukrainian Armed Forces will not be forming a separate drone corps for the time being
The Ukrainian Armed Forces currently have no plans to establish a separate Unmanned Systems Corps, as the existing structure is considered sufficiently effective for carrying out combat missions and developing this area. At the same time, the command emphasizes that unmanned units continue to expand and improve within the existing system.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi explained that the issue of creating a separate Unmanned Systems Corps is not currently on the agenda, as the existing branch of the military, in his words, performs its functions in a coordinated and effective manner.
“We are not considering it at this time. We have a branch of service, namely the Unmanned Systems Forces, which at this stage are sufficient and are being deployed in a coordinated manner. I do not yet see a need to create another structure to manage them,” Syrskyi noted, emphasizing that additional layers of command are not needed at this time.
He also added that the development of the Unmanned Systems Forces is proceeding gradually—through the strengthening of existing units, the formation of new regiments based on battalions, and the expansion of the command structure, without drastic organizational changes.
Separately, the Commander-in-Chief noted that the enemy is also actively expanding its unmanned capabilities, increasing financial incentives for military personnel, and developing this area, so Ukraine is forced to act flexibly and in response to Russia’s actions. “As for what happens next—we must not forget that the enemy is also actively developing its unmanned forces. This is a complex process. At the moment, I don’t see such a need,” explained Syrskyi.
He also stated that the creation of a separate assault corps is not currently being considered, in order to avoid duplicating the functions of the Airborne Assault Forces and creating unnecessary competition between units within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine plan to set the minimum salary for military personnel at 30,000 hryvnias, as stated by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
