The owner of a hotel chain in Ukraine has been notified that he is suspected of financing Russia's war
The Security Service of Ukraine has announced that it has placed Russian businessman Yuri Vasin under suspicion; he is suspected of financing Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and concealing his assets within the country.
According to the investigation, after Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Vasin attempted to conceal his business operations in Ukraine by temporarily transferring assets to trusted individuals. At the same time, law enforcement officials claim, he continued to control the financial and operational activities of the companies under his control.
This involves approximately 40 real estate properties with a total value of over 1.5 billion hryvnias. Among them is a chain of 17 hotels and resort complexes in various regions of Ukraine.
Investigators also established that companies linked to Vasin in Russia collaborated with enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex and state-run paramilitary structures of the aggressor country.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Lviv at the residences and offices of individuals under the businessman’s control. During the investigative operations, they seized accounting documents, rough notes, cell phones, and computer equipment containing evidence of possible illegal activities.
SBU investigators notified Vasin in absentia of his status as a suspect under Part 3 of Article 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—financing actions aimed at altering the territory and state borders of Ukraine in violation of the Constitution.
Law enforcement authorities have now filed a petition with the court to freeze the businessman’s assets in Ukraine with the aim of subsequently nationalizing them. Since Vasin is currently outside Ukraine, measures are underway to bring him to justice.
According to “RBC-Ukraine,” Yuriy Vasin is the beneficial owner of the Reikartz Group hotel chain.
