Volyn is preparing for an evacuation due to the threat from Belarus

In Volyn, border defenses with Belarus are being strengthened, and a contingency plan is being prepared in case the situation escalates, including the possible evacuation of residents in border areas. Authorities and the military say the region remains under constant surveillance and is prepared for any scenario. This was stated on the air of “Suspilne Studio” by Olga Cheren, head of the Kovel District Military Administration.

In the Volyn region, defenses along the border with Belarus are being strengthened, where the military and local authorities are operating in a constant state of readiness, given the risks that have persisted since the start of the full-scale war.

Olga Cheren, head of the Kovel District Military Administration, stated that the border area is under heightened protection, and all necessary measures to deter a potential threat are being worked out in advance and continuously.

She emphasized that in the event of a sharp escalation of the situation, a clear action plan is in place, which includes the evacuation of the population from border communities and the identification of safe locations for temporary shelter. “In the event of a threat on the border with Belarus, adjacent territories are subject to full evacuation. Locations have already been identified where the population will be evacuated if necessary,” Cheren noted.

Despite this, she said, life in the region continues as usual; people are working, tending to their farms, and going about their daily business, although they fully understand the protocols for behavior in case of danger. “Our population is working as usual. We’re planting, weeding, and carrying out all agricultural work, because our district is a border area. But people know how to behave properly in the event of a threat, because we have prepared and are preparing them for a possible evacuation, should the need arise,” she added.

Thus, Volyn is simultaneously living its normal life and preparing for any possible developments, maintaining a balance between daily work and the region’s defense readiness.

Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya visited the site of the Russian strike in Kyiv and declared Alexander Lukashenko responsible for the aggression against Ukraine.

Earlier, Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met unofficially with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to Lithuania. The Belarusian politician consistently feels support from Ukraine’s leadership.

Belarusian opposition figure Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has been nominated for the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize. She was nominated by Norwegian parliamentarians Bollestad and Elvenes.
