The Verkhovna Rada proposes to posthumously award the title of Hero of Ukraine to Iryna Farion's son-in-law

The Verkhovna Rada sent a parliamentary inquiry to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy requesting that Senior Private Vasyl Osoba be posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

On September 3, 245 members of parliament voted in favor of submitting the inquiry. The inquiry was initiated by Oksana Savchuk and Rostyslav Tistik. They are asking that the soldier be awarded the Order of the Golden Star.

Vasyl Osoba was the husband of Sofia Osoba, the daughter of linguist and social activist Iryna Farion. He served as a mortar operator in the 4th “Force of Freedom” Battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine’s “Rubizh” Rapid Response Brigade.

The soldier was killed on October 6, 2024, during a battle with Russian troops in the Siverskyi sector. He was 35 years old. He is survived by his wife and two children.

The Verkhovna Rada’s decision merely endorses the deputy’s inquiry. The final decision on conferring the title of Hero of Ukraine rests with the president.

On the second anniversary of the death of linguist and People’s Deputy of the 7th convocation Iryna Farion, her daughter Sofia Osoba published a poignant video message. She shared family memories, spoke about a family tradition, and expressed words of love and gratitude to her mother.

As a reminder, the defendant accused of Farion’s murder will be assigned a public defender.

The defendant in the Faryon murder case refused to testify in court.
