Ukrenergo's losses due to the war have reached nearly 90 billion hryvnia
NPC "Ukrenergo" has incurred losses of nearly 90 billion hryvnia as a result of Russian attacks since the start of the full-scale war.
“Nearly 90 billion hryvnias—that is the extent of Ukrenergo’s losses during the war,” Zaychenko said.
According to him, one of the most significant consequences of the Russian attacks was the simultaneous power outage affecting approximately 12 million Ukrainians, which occurred on February 8, 2026.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal also spoke at the event, noting that last winter, the available capacity of Ukraine’s power grid fell below 11 GW due to Russian strikes.
Against this backdrop, Ukraine announced the largest-ever tender for the construction of new generating capacity totaling 1.5 GW in the country’s energy-deficient regions.
It is expected that the winners of the tender will receive compensation for the cost of electricity during morning and evening hours through a market premium mechanism, bringing the price up to the level determined by the tender results.
The implementation of this project is intended to strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s power grid and reduce the risk of electricity shortages amid ongoing Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.
This was announced by the company’s CEO, Vitaliy Zaychenko, during the event “Decentralization 2.0: Strengthening the Resilience of the Power System Together.”
As a reminder, the total confirmed environmental damage to Ukraine resulting from Russia’s full-scale aggression has already exceeded 7 trillion hryvnias.
