Ukrainians may be fined for failing to clean up the area around their homes
Owners of private homes may be fined if they fail to maintain the area adjacent to their fence. These requirements are set forth in the local landscaping regulations in effect in each community.
Homeowners’ responsibilities may extend not only to their own property but also to the area between the fence and the road or sidewalk. Depending on the specific community’s regulations, homeowners must pick up trash, mow the grass, maintain landscaping, and, in winter, clear the area of snow and ice.
In many communities, the rule is that the owner must maintain the area from the boundary of their property to the roadway in proper condition, but no more than 20 meters, unless otherwise specified by local regulations.
Violations of public improvement regulations are subject to administrative penalties. For citizens, the fine ranges from 340 to 1,360 UAH, and for officials and individual entrepreneurs—from 850 to 1,700 UAH.
Before applying these requirements, it is recommended to familiarize yourself with the public improvement regulations specific to your local community, as they may vary.
