Vucic may resign to take a new position

Changes may be on the horizon for Serbia’s top leadership: incumbent President Aleksandar Vučić is considering the possibility of stepping down early. According to reports, he may leave the presidency to take on another political role within the government. However, no official decisions have been announced yet; the discussion centers solely on possible personnel changes at the highest levels of government.

According to the Serbian president, he is considering running for the position of prime minister and does not rule out a quick resignation from the presidency.

Responding to a question about whether he might leave the office of head of state within the next three to four months, Vučić noted that this could happen even sooner.

"And in doing so, I will not tell the people that I have shortened my term, but rather that I have resigned," he said.

According to the Serbian president, the ruling party discusses the possibility of his transition to the post of prime minister on a daily basis.

Vucic also said that he has already begun preparing for possible changes. In particular, he reported that he is in the process of moving books out of the Presidential Palace.

"I have a lot of books. I’m already looking for a place to put them," he emphasized. "I will donate 1,200 books that I received during my presidential term to some institution. I’m still thinking about which institution that will be."

In addition, Vučić confirmed that his political party is already considering candidates for the upcoming presidential election. At the same time, he declined to name specific individuals, noting that the future candidate will have a strong chance of winning.

The Serbian leader also invited supporters to a rally on June 27, where he promised to present his future political plans, a new list of candidates, and his vision for the country’s development.

This was reported with reference to a statement by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on Radio Belgrade.

Vucic announced his possible resignation amid protests in Serbia.

Prior to this, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced his intention to hold early parliamentary elections. According to him, the vote could take place between late September and mid-November.
