Another 60 Ukrainians have been returned from the occupied territories and Russia
Since March 2026, 60 Ukrainians have been successfully repatriated from Russia and the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including people with limited mobility, the seriously ill, and undocumented individuals. The evacuation was organized with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross, utilizing specialized transport and medical personnel.
In particular, representatives of the Ombudsman’s Office managed to evacuate a man who had survived unlawful detention, beatings, and torture in the temporarily occupied territories, which had left him virtually unable to move on his own and in need of urgent medical treatment.
Additionally, during the humanitarian mission, the family of a Ukrainian serviceman who returned from Russian captivity back in 2025 was reunited, while his parents had remained under occupation all this time. Currently, all evacuated citizens are in territory controlled by Ukraine, where they are receiving comprehensive humanitarian, legal, psychological, and financial support.
This was reported by Dmytro Lubinets, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
Another 185 Ukrainian defenders are returning home today from Russian captivity on June 5. One civilian is also returning with the defenders. These are soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service. They include privates, sergeants, and officers, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported.
As a reminder, Ukraine has already managed to return 2,126 children abducted by Russia as part of the Bring Kids Back UA initiative.
