Adulterated alcohol that causes serious harm can result in up to 10 years in prison
The relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada recommended the adoption of Bill No. 9364, which significantly increases penalties for the illegal trafficking of alcohol, tobacco, e-cigarettes, and fuel.
The bill provides for increased fines for a range of violations. Specifically, maximum penalties could rise to 51,000 UAH, and for certain offenses—up to 34,000 UAH.
It also proposes to strengthen criminal liability for the illegal manufacture of excise goods. The production of counterfeit goods could be punishable by 3 to 5 years of imprisonment.
If such products posed a threat to human life and health, or if their consumption led to death or other serious consequences, the punishment may range from 8 to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
In addition, the bill provides for the destruction of confiscated illegal alcohol, tobacco products, and e-cigarette liquids following a court ruling.
