Zelenskyy Ranks Fourth in Ukrainians' Trust Rating
Ukrainians trust representatives of the defense sector the most. According to KMIS, Valerii Zaluzhnyi topped the ranking with a 66% trust rating, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy came in fourth—56% of respondents trust him.
The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) has released the results of a survey on Ukrainians’ trust in ten well-known public figures. First place went to Valerii Zaluzhnyi, former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
He is trusted by 66% of respondents. Twenty-four percent do not trust Zaluzhny. Former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov came in second. He is trusted by 63% of Ukrainians, while 16% do not trust him.
Fedorov has the best balance of trust and distrust among all those in the ranking, with a margin of +46 percentage points. Third place went to the head of the President’s Office, Kirill Budanov. He is trusted by 61% of respondents, while 22% expressed distrust.
Zelenskyy came in fourth
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took fourth place in the ranking. He is trusted by 56% of Ukrainians. Thirty-eight percent of those surveyed do not trust the head of state.
Thus, the balance of trust and distrust in Zelenskyy stands at plus 18 percentage points. Despite ranking fourth, the president remains one of the four public figures on the list who are trusted by more people than do not trust him.
Terekhov and Biletsky
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov took fifth place. He is trusted by 47% of those surveyed, while 19% do not trust him. Another 23% of respondents said they do not know Terekhov.
Andriy Biletsky, commander of the Third Army Corps, came in sixth. He is trusted by 37% of Ukrainians, while 13% do not trust him. At the same time, 40% of those surveyed said they did not know who Biletsky was. In other words, in Biletsky’s case, a significant portion of respondents do not have enough information to form an opinion about him.
Who Ended Up at the Bottom of the Ranking
The remaining four public figures on the list had a negative trust balance. This means that more people do not trust them than those who express trust in them. This group includes volunteer Serhiy Prytula, Members of Parliament Dmytro Razumkov and Oleksiy Honcharenko, as well as Ukraine’s fifth president, Petro Poroshenko.
Poroshenko has the lowest rating among all ten. He is trusted by 20% of respondents, while 76% expressed distrust. His trust balance stands at minus 56 percentage points. Serhiy Prytula, Dmytro Razumkov, and Oleksiy Goncharenko also have more people who do not trust them than those who do.
Fedorov’s trust rating has risen significantly
KMIS also highlighted changes compared to the previous poll, conducted in May. Trust in Mykhailo Fedorov has increased the most. This figure was the main change in the rankings.
Overall, the poll results show that Ukrainians trust people associated with the country’s defense and security the most. At the same time, there is a 10-percentage-point gap between the ranking’s leader, Valeriy Zaluzhny, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy: 66% versus 56%. The poll reflects respondents’ attitudes at the exact time it was conducted. The level of trust in public figures may vary depending on events in the country and their public activities. This is according to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
In the first half of the year, as of August 10, courts handed down 55 guilty verdicts in cases investigated by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO). Among those convicted were four high-ranking government officials, 11 heads of state-owned enterprises, as well as judges and prosecutors.
The level of corruption in Ukraine is not decreasing, and corruption among top officials, according to SAPO Head Oleksandr Klymenko, is even on the rise. He stated that the fight against bribery is hampered, in particular, by a lack of political will and a number of problems in the functioning of the anti-corruption system.
The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court has remanded in custody one of the suspects in the “Midas” case, Ihor Myronyuk. Bail in the amount of 85 million hryvnias was set as an alternative to pretrial detention, but it has not yet been posted.
