Zelenskyy raised the possibility of a ceasefire
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he theoretically considers freezing the front line at current positions to be one of the possible quickest ways to end hostilities. According to him, the next stage should involve a transition to a diplomatic resolution of the war.
Responding to a journalist’s question about a possible format for a ceasefire, the president confirmed his willingness to consider the option of freezing combat positions where they currently stand.
“Yes, this is the fastest way. Of course, I don’t just want to freeze the conflict—we want to live in Ukraine, not just stop the war. We want to stop it in such a way that it doesn’t resume because of some crazy people. The idea is not just to freeze the situation, but to solidify it and shift the process to the diplomatic plane,” Zelenskyy explained.
The president emphasized: this does not mean complying with Moscow’s demands. The priority remains saving the lives of Ukrainians.
“Staying where we are now means giving people in Ukraine more opportunities to save their children, and allowing the military to return home. This is very important to us,” he stated.
Zelenskyy emphasized in an interview with Sky News that Kyiv is seeking not a temporary lull, but an end to the war that would prevent new aggression. A simple freeze without security guarantees does not satisfy him.
Earlier, during a speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin confirmed the visit of an unnamed business representative and the proposal to meet from Zelenskyy, but stated that he sees no point in such a personal meeting, as he continues to believe that Russia’s advantage in resources will allow it to achieve its goals.
Zelenskyy published an open letter to Putin—full text.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow is allegedly ready for negotiations to end the war against Ukraine, but sees no willingness for dialogue on the Ukrainian side.
Putin is not changing course and continues to finance the war.
