Zelenskyy has instructed diplomats to reset Ukraine's relations with Hungary
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, has updated the strategic European foreign policy priorities for May and June.
The head of state officially announced this on his Telegram channel following a working meeting with the foreign minister.
Key priorities for diplomatic efforts include a constructive reset of relations with Hungary and Georgia, the opening of new negotiation tracks with the EU, and engaging European leaders in the future peace process.
The Ukrainian side is currently focusing its efforts on building an effective dialogue with the new Hungarian government.
Official Kyiv is laying the groundwork for full-fledged intergovernmental negotiations aimed at resolving previous disputes.
“Together with Andriy Sybiga, we have updated our European foreign policy priorities for May–June. At the team level, we are engaged in active dialogue with Hungary’s new government, and there are prospects for a constructive restart of relations. Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and other government officials are preparing for bilateral consultations with Hungary. I am counting on results,” Zelenskyy said.
The path toward European integration remains a key focus of our work, requiring systematic and clearly coordinated interaction with European institutions.
At the meeting, they discussed in detail the action plan for opening the first thematic clusters within the framework of the official negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
The President noted that Ukraine has taken the necessary steps, and it is important to have a clear timeline for the processes. This will allow us to maintain the high momentum of integration and meet the necessary criteria.
In addition to the Hungarian track, the Foreign Ministry plans to significantly intensify communication with the Caucasus region. Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga separately briefed the head of state on the results of recent contacts with the Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Ukrainian government is demonstrating openness to dialogue on the basis of parity.
“We seek to normalize relations and cooperation based on mutual respect and mutual reinforcement, and we are ready to take steps toward this,” the head of state said in response.
