Zelenskyy has appointed Yevhen Khmara to serve as acting defense minister

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed Yevhen Khmara, the acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine, to serve as acting Minister of Defense. Once the necessary legal procedures have been completed, the head of state plans to submit a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada to appoint Khmara as Minister of Defense.

Zelenskyy announced this on social media, according to “Ukrainska Pravda.” According to the president, he discussed with Khmara a strategic vision for Ukraine’s next steps to defend its independence and compel Russia to engage in diplomacy.

Zelenskyy stated that Khmara has significant experience in conducting high-tech strike operations, and it is precisely on this, in the president’s view, that Ukraine’s defense should focus during the war.

“I believe that under the current circumstances, real effectiveness in long-range operations, truly robust security measures that will ensure control over the internal situation within the components of the Defense Forces, and real-world experience in managing personnel at the ‘Alpha’ Special Operations Center of the Security Service of Ukraine should become an advantage in the position of Minister of Defense of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy stated.
