Zelenskyy identified the main objective of the NATO summit in Turkey

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the July meeting of allies in Turkey should serve as proof of NATO’s ability to withstand internal challenges and external threats.

During his speech at the “Bucharest Nine” summit, the head of state emphasized the importance of sending positive signals to the Euro-Atlantic community amid strained relations between the U.S. and Europe.

According to Zelenskyy, the results of the July 7–8 meeting should demonstrate that the Alliance will not weaken or fall apart. He emphasized that European countries must develop their own military resources and production to avoid dependence on shifting political sentiments.

Zelenskyy also emphasized the need to create a unified and self-sufficient European defense policy. In his view, strengthening military capabilities directly within Europe will only reinforce NATO and make collective defense more resilient. The President called on allies to consolidate their efforts as much as possible ahead of the upcoming summit.

A NATO summit was held in The Hague, following which partners recognized Russia as a “long-term threat” to the entire Alliance.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is convinced of a consensus among NATO members regarding the need to increase defense spending. This is necessary due to the threat posed by Russia.
